We made Navajo tacos last night. They were so good! They are really easy to make. David got the recipe from a real Navajo indian lady in one of our old wards. I like to call them scones because it bugs David (he he he). He will tell you that scones are leavened and these aren't. Whatever, they are just really good!
Navajo Fry Bread
You can make this is any quantity you want by doubling, tripling or more this recipe (I think David said he 2 1/2 x it for our family and we had leftovers)
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup water
Directions: kneed all ingredients together until not sticky and then cover and allow to "rest" for about 30 minutes. Seperate into small balls of dough (1 cup makes 3 or 4 medium size fry breads). Roll until about 1/4 inch thick and fry in about an inch of hot oil turning once until lightly browned on both sides.
Toppings: your favorite canned chili (or homemade chili), cheese, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, anything else that sounds good to you. They are also really good with butter and honey on them.
*We didn't have any chili last night so we browned some ground beef and added some kidney beans and taco seasoning and canned green chilis. It was still really good.
